No one could have anticipated the impact of An Inconvenient Truth - the Oscar-winning documentary film whose focus was Al Gore and the climate crisis slideshow he created. Not even Gore himself foresaw the film’s widespread popularity or the cultural and political effects it would have. Seizing the opportunity its success created, in June 2006 Gore founded The Climate Project (TCP), an organization that, with Al Gore, trained select groups of committed volunteers to spread the word about climate change using his now famous slide show. Since then, more than 1700 Climate Project presenters have been trained world wide, and more than a million people around the world have received the presentation.

Each TCP presenter has his or her own story turning climate change knowledge to action. The presenters include college students and professors, retired grandparents, politicians, professional athletes and beauty queens, people of every faith and political persuasion. They come from all 50 states of the United States and many other nations, including Australia, Canada, India, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Thailand, Uganda, Cameron. Their presentation venues have ranged from civic clubs to churches and synagogues, from trade shows to workplaces, from youth organizations and schools to community centers.

Here you can read a few of their stories.

Gary Dunham, for instance, was the very first The Climate Project presenter. He has worked extensively as a volunteer for TCP and even had a 6 month stint as Field Operations Director and is now back in Houston where he continues his work as a Climate Project presenter.

Patricia Mcardle is a former State Department diplomat, who saw first-hand the devastation of relying on old forms of energy.

Dr. Susan Pacheco is applying her training in her native Puerto Rico. Through frequent visits and seminars she is making the people of her birthplace aware of the special vulnerability of island nations to climate change.

Each of the one thousand presenters has a unique story to tell and the Alliance will continue to profile these inspiring individuals. Please visit us again to read about more Climate Project presenters.
