The race to secure our clean energy future is nearing the finish line. Tonight, President Obama gave the Senate the clear direction to pass clean energy and climate legislation that puts the needs of the American people first – our national security, our jobs, and our health. People from every corner of the country overwhelmingly support action. They want our leaders to transition to a clean energy economy that puts America back to work, ends our reliance on foreign oil and keeps our families and futures safe. Now it is time for the Senate to act.

The resolution introduced today by Senator Murkowski would undercut the strongest laws we have available to protect our air and water and disregards the will of the American people who support action on clean energy and the climate. The Environmental Protection Agency ruled that greenhouse gases are a threat to the health and welfare of the American people, and the Clean Air Act is the most powerful tool we have to ensure we cut the carbon pollution that is at the heart of the climate crisis. Now is the time for the U.S. Senate to turn its attention to the real task at hand – passage of comprehensive clean energy and climate legislation that will create millions of jobs, make America energy independent, and reduce pollution.
